Jack’s Patch Market Garden

Upminster, Essex
4 years

In 2019 I started my journey running 1/4 a cup market garden on the edge of London.. my dream was handed to me after documenting my journey on Instagram at my allotment. A local girl saw me collecting up food waste from a friends café that I was going to compost and introduce me to her grandma who had Land. This conversation manifested into my dream of having Land handed to me. From that I spring boarded into action with all my knowledge and expertise to start a market garden from scratch into a fully functioning market that supported Cafes restaurants, farmers market and veg boxes.

After years of managing the market garden with all the hard work I put in I learnt so much and felt that I could inspire others. That led me to exposing growing organically within the walls of London and get into people to grow their own food in a small space. This was done at challenging time pre-and post Covid. And then open the Farm up to volunteer days in 2022 and hosted multiple days where people could get stuck in their hands dirty learn how to grow their own food and also cook on the land. During this time, the knowledge from this time was imperative to the next step of my journey which to this day I look back on and see as a pivotal point of my journey. Growing all types of vegetables growing in all weathers and conditions and also experimenting in all styles of growing. It gave me a basic knowledge in business and how to deal with chefs and customers with quality quantity and people skills . Those four years at the Farm, I’ll always look back on and be thankful.
