Ethos Brothers Café - Raised Bed Veggie & Herb Garden

Ongar, Essex
Project duration: 4 days

The cafe, Ethos Bros, commissioned me to build some raised vegetable beds with a trellis to grow herbs, vegetables and edible flowers for use in their kitchen.

We were working on a budget, so I designed vegetable beds using low-cost materials, such as wooden pallets and scaffold boards, all painted black to match the cafe exterior. We also constructed a vertical bamboo planter that’s been ideal for growing peach shoots and edible flowers. These are all on view for the customers to see, lining the outdoor seating area.

We used good compost and healthy herbs, vegetables and flowers that established quickly in Spring and have been used all Summer to great success in their kitchen. I love working with cafes, restaurants and pubs to bring their customers fresh produce that’s visibly grown on-site, not only does it taste much better than food that’s travelled from miles away, it saves them money and gives the customers inspiration to grow their own too!
