Gaz Oakley - Hillside Permaculture Garden

South East Wales
Project duration: 6 days

Gaz commissioned me to help with the design of a new garden space. He’d had the area flattened and there were poly tunnels and raised beds already on-site. Other than that, it was a blank canvas for us to create an amazing growing and outdoor cooking space in!

On the steepest part of the hill we created swales (sloped earth with a valley in the middle) that gave us lots of space to grow food, conserve water and enjoy maximum sunlight. We installed log stepping stones for ease of access in this area.

We designed the garden in a unique way that worked with the contours of the land, with beds in teardrop shapes, surrounded by woodchip puffs and compost. The perimeter was filled in with grass seed and we designed a new barbecue area for Gaz to work his culinary magic, a must-have for any chef! This area looks amazing and was built using timber that we gathered for a low cost.

This project is an on-going work in progress.
